Past customers are a contractor's friend
Homeowner reached back out to us about updating bathroom floor. And getting rid of a fiberglass shower. To install tile in master bath.
The homeowner removed the old linoleum and wanted larger format tile.
They asked us to refer a plumber to help with removing old sink, and then installing new vanity after we set new floor tile. We referred them to Mitch with Coy Plumbing & Heating out of Manchester, NH.
After bathroom demolition we started to prep for tile floor installation in Hudson, New Hampshire home.
Prepping subfloor for tile with self leveling compound
The subfloor had a slight slope we needed to address prep prior to installing tile.
Used a proprietary primer and then mixed a self leveling compound to pour and finish trowel over substrate.
It was a small floor. And customer wanted large format tile. So anything other than flat would reveal it's deviation discrepancies.
The removed toilet with leaky valve dripping would need to be bucketed. And dumped every 8 hours until the plumber found time in his schedule.
But first, the subfloor needed to be primed before "self leveling" compound mixed and trowel floated flat.
Then, a couple layers of Laticrete HydroBan installed. For good measure. Serving purpose as both an anti fracture membrane, and waterproofing agent.
Set tile using lippage-free clip system. To keep abutting tile flush with each other. And uniform grout joint widths.
(Last tile set for the day I put down backwards. Telling me it was time to go home. Shower, eat and rest up.)
I do miss days when smaller tiles were used on floors. And grout joint spacings were used to "Dutch" not having awkward cuts at transition areas or perimeter.
